Award winning talent

Mississauga Concert Band Trophy In 2002, Mississauga Pops Concert Band (a.k.a. MPCB, Mississauga Pops, and MissPops) entered its first band competition—The Canadian Band Association's "Festival of Bands" at the Canadian National Exhibition—and won highest honours in a remarkable three of six award categories. It entered again in 2004 and took 3rd prize. After an extended break from the festival scene, the band entered Ontario Band Association's "Ontario Concert Band Festival" in 2013 and was awarded "gold". This is truly an ensemble worthy of Mississauga's pride.

Sharing a passion for music since 1979

Mississauga Pops Concert Band was founded as Meadowvale Concert Band by amateur clarinet player Larry Vella. He brought together a few neighbours from the community of Meadowvale in Mississauga who shared the desire to play music and enjoy good company. Some of these founding members are still with the band now that it is in its fourth decade of operation. A passion for music, good fun, and a sense of community keep members coming back year after year. This outstanding adult musical group now boasts a membership of about 50 amateur and semi-professional performers from mixed age groups, backgrounds, and professions. Mississauga Pops Concert Band is affiliated with Mississauga Recreation and Parks, Mississauga Arts Council, and the Canadian Band Association-Ontario Chapter.

Great musical variety

Mississauga Pops Concert Band's versatility delights audiences with a diverse repertoire of popular music of various musical genres including classical, swing/big band, jazz, marches, contemporary, rock, and the latest movie, gaming, and Broadway tunes. More about music

The concert series

On the anniversary of its tenth year, Mississauga Pops hosted its first concert series at the Meadowvale Theatre, a series that later included performances at other venues and continues to be a successful annual event. Guest artists have given both audiences and band members the chance to share in musical moments with such greats as Peter Appleyard, Dinah Christie, Luba Goy, Johnny Cowell, Alastair Kay, Bobby Herriot, and Canadian composer Howard Cable.

Supporting the community

While Mississauga was growing to be the sixth largest city in Canada, Mississauga Pops Concert Band was a benefactor of such community growth projects as Meadowvale Theatre and Credit Valley Hospital. The band provided entertainment for the opening ceremonies of Mississauga's Civic Centre, as well as at other important civic events. The band has hosted benefit concerts for various local charity groups, and provided music education bursaries to talented young musicians in the city. MPCB offers free concerts within the City of Mississauga each year.

Making Mississauga "noteable"

Mississauga Pops has a solid reputation outside of its home community with performances throughout Ontario including: Toronto, Ottawa, Windsor, Sudbury, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Gravenhurst, Orillia, Burlington, Cobourg and Markham. The ensemble was well-received internationally as well, with performances in New York. Invite us to play where you live.
